Polish European Community Studies Association – PECSA was created in 1989 by scientist from the best Polish universities, led by professor Andrzej Stępniak, supported by the European Commission. What distinguishes PECSA is the inter- and multidisciplinary scientific background of its members. European studies projects and research prepared and conducted by PECSA require integration of knowledge from different fields: economics, political science, international relations, law, administrative sciences, sociology and anthropology.
PECSA is a member of European Community Studies Association (ECSA) international network that was created by the European Commission to promote European integration as a teaching subject. As a result of Europe 2020 Strategy, ECSA in cooperation with the European Commission and Jean Monnet professors participated in actions that aim at preparation of the best possible system of teaching European integration in changing international environment. ECSA network includes (as on July 2013) national sections in 28 EU member states as well in 32 non-member states, such as USA, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Venezuela, Brazil, Switzerland and Morocco. Professor Enrique Banus (Institut Carlemany d’Estudis Europeus, Universitat Internacional de Catalunya (UIC), Spain) is current chairman of ECSA network.
Mission: PECSA is dedicated to promoting research into and teaching about European Union, analyzing strategic aspects of EU actions and policies, development of cooperation and integration between Polish scientists and researchers, universities and institutions dedicated to EU studies. PECSA aims also at promoting integration between Polish researchers and researchers from other EU member states, members of ECSA and EU institutions.
The main objectives of the research and teaching conducted by PECSA members are to find answers for the challenges facing European Union, its member states and its citizens. Additionally, PECSA inspires development of EU policies. From its beginnings PECSA encouraged debate on European integration, place of Europe in the world, as well as broadly understood international relations and globalisation. One of its most important goals is promotion of active, committed and strongly pro-European Poland as an EU member state.
