During the lecture, Prof Kotarba will present the author's concept of "frontier medicine" – the study of situations where there are significant differences between the known and the unknown in terms of health risks, diagnoses, staff resources, available therapies and prognosis. These phenomena challenge the effectiveness of standard approaches to medicine and resource allocation policies, leading to the need for experimentation and discovery.
The phenomena studied by Professor Kotarba include space medicine, battlefield medicine, migratory phenomena and the experience of the Covid-19 pandemic. These topics constitute the Professor's main research area during his stay in Lodz.
The event is organised as part of the celebrations of the 60th anniversary of the Faculty of Economics and Sociology of the University of Lodz.
