Liwia Kowalska (Faculty of International and Political Studies), Yuliia Tatianina (Faculty of Economics and Sociology) and Dziyana Marchuk (Faculty of Economics and Sociology) had an opportunity to listen to lectures by professors from the Faculty of Law of the University of Zagreb, as well as lecturers from abroad – including Dr Koen Slootmaeckers from Great Britain and Prof. Džaneta Karabegović from Austria.
The Summer School in Zagreb was an incredible experience. We had in-depth discussions on how law can protect democracy, whether courts truly uphold it and how to effectively defend democracy at the local level. The summer school curriculum wasn't limited to theoretical lectures. We had the opportunity to meet with representatives of the Centre for Peace Studies and the team working on Faktograf. We also visited the Centre for Cultural Dialogue, where we learned how this institution helps immigrants navigate and acclimate to a new, often very different, reality
– the students report.
There was also plenty of time for networking and meeting new, inspiring people from all over the world – including Germany, the UK, India, Russia, Vietnam, and, of course, Croatia. We also had the opportunity to experience Croatian culture by participating in local festivals and events. The University of Zagreb welcomed us with tremendous hospitality and support at every stage of our stay
– add the summer school particpants.
We felt like a part of their academic community there. Professor Dario Čepo, who organised the summer school, proved to be not only a wonderful lecturer but also an incredibly kind and supportive person. We learned a great deal from him – not only academically, but also about everyday life, the realities, and history of Croatia
– the scholarship winners conclude.
