Work on the Eco-Corner of Well-Being in Lumumbowo will begin in October in the area behind Dormitory No. 9 and will last until the end of the year. Students and residents will be able to use the new space in the spring
– says Łukasz Ochrytkow, Deputy Director of the University of Lodz Student Campus.
The Eco Corner of Well-Being project is a natural extension and complement to the existing Water Corner in Lumumbowo. Together, these two projects will create a comprehensive system of green spaces that will not only enhance the biodiversity and aesthetics of the surrounding area, but above all, provide residents and students with a holistic experience of contact with nature, while promoting environmental education and sustainable development.
The Water Corner focuses on the dynamic world of water and its role in the ecosystem, with its meadow sites (supporting retention and biodiversity), rainwater catchment (demonstrating the water cycle), and ecosystem information sites (a source of knowledge). The Eco Corner of Well-Being expands this narrative with elements that support terrestrial life, sensory perception and immediate relaxation. Together, they create a cohesive, educational nature trail.
Elements that will make up the Eco Corner of Well-Being:
- A flower meadow – it will serve as another stop for pollinators and enhance the aesthetics of the surrounding area.
- A sensory path – it will be constructed from a variety of natural materials (e.g., bark, stones, pinecones, sand), stimulating the sense of touch. This will provide a physical connection with nature, complementing the visual and auditory experiences of the Water Corner.
- Deckchairs – three comfortable deckchairs are planned, allowing for relaxation and admiring the surroundings.
- Insect hotel – it will complement existing meadow sites, providing shelter and breeding sites for insects using the resources of both areas.
- Bird nesting boxes
- The Soil Barium – it will be a key educational element, supplementing information about the ecosystem by revealing the invisible world beneath the earth's surface. It will be planted with plants that will have both aesthetic and protective purposes.
The project also assumes the organisation of educational workshops for students and residents at the Eco Corner of Well-Being, offering comprehensive knowledge about the local ecosystem.
Combining the Eco Corner of Well-Being with the existing Water Corner will create a unique, interactive educational and recreational complex on the premises of the academic campus. It will be not only a place for relaxation but, above all, a living lesson in ecology, promoting understanding and respect for local nature.
