Cities facing tensions and migration
Cities in Europe are undergoing dynamic change – both locally and globally. Population growth in some regions and stagnation in others lead to tensions, which are visible, among other things, in population migration and job relocations. This influences the way we perceive space: we divide it into private, shared, public as well as useful and useless.
Sustainable development or large-scale development?
Under the slogan of sustainable development, the construction of large building complexes is increasingly being promoted over smaller, local structures. This is intended to help regions cope with an influx of new residents or rebuild after a crisis. These changes have a direct impact on architecture and spatial planning, from large cities to small housing estates.
A new approach to urban planning
Modern urban planning focuses on the well-being of residents, offering access to services on foot or by bike, as well as green spaces and water areas. New apartments are often small in order to counteract the shortage of housing and create new communal spaces.
COST Action – interdisciplinary research on space
In response to these challenges, the COST Action research network has been established to investigate how shrinking space impacts the daily lives of children, youth, families and senior citizens in various regions of Europe. The project combines design thinking with strategic planning and is interdisciplinary in nature.
Invitation to cooperation
Experienced researchers from the University of Lodz who would like to participate in the interdisciplinary project or learn more about it are asked to contact Joanna Korczyńska (joanna.korczynska@uni.lodz.pl) and Ewelina Wronka (ewelina.wronka@uni.lodz.pl) from the University of Lodz Applications Section no later than 25 September of the current year.
