One of the exhibitions at the Natural History Museum of the University of Lodz

The history of the Natural History Museum of the University of Lodz dates back to 1930, when the Natural and Pedagogical Museum was established on the basis of the collections existing in the city. This is why, some of the contemporary collections have historical value and come from pre-war times.

The collection includes specimens rarely exhibited in Polish natural history museums. The number of all museum objects is estimated at over 100,000, and insects constitute the largest group.

The comprehensive expansion and modernisation of the museum was completed in 2018. As a result, an educational and cultural centre where modern exhibitions popularising natural sciences are presented was created. A significant increase in the exhibition and storage area (to approximately 800 m2 in total) allowed for the creation of new exhibitions and the proper storage and conservation of the collections.
