Pseudonymisation, consent, trust – pillars of modern biomedical research

Three key concepts are at the centre of attention: pseudonymisation, consent and trust. These concepts ensure that modern biomedical research can be conducted responsibly and safely, respecting participants' privacy and adhering to the highest ethical standards.

How is data protected at the University of Lodz Biobank Laboratory?

In this episode, Dr Marta Sobalska-Kwapis explains the process of separating personal data from biological material, who has access to the information, and how full anonymity of research participants is ensured. She also discusses the importance of informed consent – that is, the participant's full understanding of the purposes for which their samples will be used.

According to the researcher, trust is fundamental. Without it, no population research is meaningful.

Biobanking – science that serves people

The series of films about the Centre for Digital Biology and Biomedical Sciences – Biobank Łódź is a story about science happening here and now – in laboratories, but also in dialogue with society. It shows how research translates into health care and a better understanding of the biological processes that influence our lives.

This is the second episode in the series, and the first can be viewed on the "Science Inspires" YouTube channel.

The project is co-financed from the state budget, awarded by the Minister of Science and Higher Education under the "Social Responsibility of Science II" programme.
