"Psia Kość!" Join the UniLodz November Donation Collection for Homeless Animals

The University of Lodz community joins forces to support animals from the Lodz Animal Shelter every November. This is the 14th edition of our donation collection and this year it is special, as our community celebrates its 80th anniversary. This round anniversary allows us to return to our values and an approach focused on people and their well-being. And who else cares about our well-being? Our four-legged friends, of course, whose wagging tails and purring brighten even the gloomiest autumn days! Therefore, let us repay them in the best way possible – by offering selfless help!

Give me your paw? Or maybe sit? Not this time – just a little food will do!

Throughout November, we're collecting donations for dogs and cats. We're primarily looking for canned wet food, especially specialised food, but you can also help by bringing blankets, pillowcases and towels – after all, winter is approaching, and everyone loves to spend time under a warm blanket, and our four-legged friends are no exception! Add some hot tea… meaning delicious treats, and now you can relax!

Note! The shelter does not accept duvets, pillows, mattresses, sponges, carpets, rugs, sleeping bags or clothing. They absorb moisture and are therefore unsuitable for kennel bedding, and if chewed up, can be dangerous for animals.

Marked gift boxes are placed in more than 30 locations of the University of Lodz:

Our goal: 80 kg of pet food at each of these locations to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the University of Lodz. We know that with our committed and supportive community, we will not only achieve this goal, but definitely exceed it! And all this for the four-legged residents of the Lodz Animal Shelter!

We've been supporting animals at the University of Lodz for years! Together, we can do more!

“Psia Kość!” at the University of Lodz is a  November donation collection for the Lodz Animal Shelter. The University of Lodz, as a socially responsible university, has been supporting pets for many years. Over the course of thirteen editions, we have collected over 7 tons of food, as well as blankets, medications, toys and accessories for dogs and cats, which we have donated to the Animal Shelter in Lodz.

Additionally, in June 2019, a special edition of the campaign took place, aimed at educating and raising awareness about adopting homeless animals, dispelling myths about adoption and presenting various forms of support. We organised a meeting with representatives of the Lodz Animal Shelter, the Bulldog Crew, and the Kocia Mama Foundation, during which we discussed the situation of animals in shelters and adoption. Our student, specialising in dog therapy, spoke about the impact dogs can have on reducing stress in humans. The Lodz University of Technology joined our campaign in 2020, collecting nearly 100 kg of pet food. We are delighted that this initiative is growing.

“Psia Kość” x DOGSPECTIVE – we are united by our love for pets!

DOGSPECTIVE is a scientific and artistic project which focuses on dogs and their relationships with humans – it is a real treat for all lovers of four-legged friends! In addition to the opening of an exhibition of drawings and photographs on 9 October 2025 (Thursday) at 7:00 p.m. at the university's Wozownia Gallery at the Biedermann’s Palace and a conversation on the humanisation of dogs in culture and the "dog baby" phenomenon (15 October), the DOGSPECTIVE programme also included a discussion on dog welfare in the context of the operation of breeding farms, shelters and foundations (22 October), which was attended by Albert Kurkowski (Animal Shelter in Lodz), Dr Katarzyna Majecka (University of Lodz), Elizabet Araj (OTOZ Animals Łódź) and the artist Maria Apoleika.

To właśnie podczas tej rozmowy, 22 października w uniwersyteckiej Galerii Wozownia przy Pałacu Biedermanna można było dołączyć, po raz pierwszy w tym roku, It was during this conversation, on 22 October at the university's Wozownia Gallery at the Biedermann’s Palace, that you could join, for the first time this year, our collection of donations for the Lodz Animal Shelter and thus take part in the “Psia Kość!” campaign!

“Psia Kość!” – Join us and help animals in need!

What was the campaign like in previous years? In 2024, we collected almost a ton of food for the furry animals from the Lodz shelter.

During the University of Lodz's October Press Breakfast conference, we announced this year's donation collection. We were joined by representatives from the shelter, including Natan – a friendly and obedient dog who, despite being missing one leg, is energetic and joyful. Natan is looking for a loving, responsible home. He joined us at the meeting to remind us how important our support is to him and his furry companions at the shelter.
