Uniwersytet Łódzki wśród liderów programu Erasmus+

The National Agency for the Erasmus+ programme and European Solidarity Corps has published the latest data on the achievements of Polish universities that implement Erasmus+ mobility under the agreements covering the years 2019/2020 and 2020/2021.

University of Lodz has been participating in the international academic exchange for many years, and the Erasmus+ programme (and its previous editions) has always been in the centre of attention of both the community and the university authorities. The contacts established during the stay at partner universities and experiences are conducive to scientific and personal development, hence the constant increase in the Erasmus+ programme enthusiasts and the high position of the University of Lodz in national rankings

– says Prof. Eleonora Bielawska-Batorowicz, the University of Lodz Rector's Representative for International Exchange Programmes.

High position of the University of Lodz in national rankings

Hard work of all the involved people has resulted in the high position of the University of Lodz in the latest ranking reporting the level of international exchange at Polish universities.

University of Lodz was ranked second among 223 universities in terms of academic staff trips to European countries for didactic purposes. It realised 248 trips of academic staff. The most frequently chosen partner countries include Spain, Italy, the Czech Republic and Germany.

In the combined category of teaching and training trips for employees, the university is ranked 5th among more than 200 universities in Poland that participate in the programme.

In the category of students coming to Poland as part of Erasmus+, only Jagiellonian University and the University of Warsaw, are ranked above the University of Lodz. Almost 900 people came to us.

University of Lodz is also among the top five Polish universities when it comes to the trips of Polish students to study abroad – 298 students spent part of their studies at partner universities, which is a great success, taking into account the period of the COVID-19 pandemic, which strongly affected the statistics of trips in 2020/2021.

Erasmus+ is a programme supporting educational exchange

Erasmus+ is the European Union programme that supports educational exchange. As part of the programme, students can study abroad, carry out internships, and employees can take part in teaching or training mobility abroad and carry out international educational projects. EU Member States, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway as well as Turkey, Serbia and North Macedonia participate in the Erasmus+ European exchange.

The entire implementation of the programme is supervised by the European Commission, which manages the budget on an ongoing basis and defines priorities, objectives and criteria. At the University of Lodz, exchange under Erasmus+ is coordinated by the International Relations Office, in close cooperation with the faculties, mainly with the international mobility coordinators who are responsible, among others, for: negotiating agreements with partner universities, recruiting and qualifying participants. Implementation of the mobility of a student or employee requires a lot of preparation –- starting from determining the details and signing the agreement, through preparation of recruitment, documents required by the programme and the host university, scholarship documents, ending with  mobility settlement and preparing a report.

Taking into account the ever-growing interest in participating in the Erasmus+ exchange and new opportunities for short-term and blended mobility, the University of Lodz expects to maintain its high position compared to other Polish universities in the coming years.
