Faculty of International Relations and Political Studies University of Łódź and The Boym Institute have the pleasure of inviting you to an academic conference marking the 50th anniversary of the adoption of the ASEAN Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (TAC).
Venue: Faculty of International and Political Studies, University of Łódź,
Council Hall of the Faculty of International and Political Studies,
Narutowicza 59a, Łódź
Date: 29 April 2026
The conference will be held in Polish and English.
The aim of the conference is to analyse the current role of the organization in the Indo-Pacific region and to attempt to answer questions regarding its functions, its adequacy in the face of contemporary challenges, and its development prospects. Among the most important issues are both internal matters—such as the civil war in Myanmar or the territorial dispute between Thailand and Cambodia—and external factors, particularly the intensifying rivalry between the United States and China. At the same time, we observe deepening economic integration and the development of cultural cooperation, which contribute to the formation of a regional identity. Equally crucial for the organization’s future is how it is perceived in member states and the nature of its relations with state and sub-state actors.
The conference focuses on an interdisciplinary approach to the topic, taking into account the complexity of the regional situation. We invite participants from political science and economics, experts in security and international relations, as well as culture researchers.
Please send submissions along with a short abstract to: konferencjaASEAN26@wsmip.uni.lodz.pl
Submission deadline: 31 March 2026
