With application deadlines for many programmes approaching this autumn, now is an excellent time to consider a future academic stay in Germany. Scholarships are available to undergraduate and postgraduate students, graduates, doctoral researchers and young academics from a wide range of disciplines.

Key DAAD Scholarship Opportunities

Summer University Courses in Germany

DAAD offers scholarships for intensive summer courses in German language, culture and regional studies organised by German universities. These programmes are open to students from all academic disciplines and typically last between three and four weeks. Participants have the opportunity to improve their language skills while gaining first-hand experience of German academic and cultural life.

The programme is particularly attractive for students wishing to strengthen their German language proficiency, enhance their intercultural competencies and establish international networks.

Master's Degree Scholarships

Graduates and final-year students may apply for funding to pursue a full Master's degree or a postgraduate qualification at a recognised German university. In some cases, DAAD also supports a one-year study period in Germany as part of an existing Master's programme. Funding is generally available for between 10 and 24 months, depending on the duration of the selected programme.

Scholarship holders receive a monthly stipend, health insurance coverage and travel support. Additional benefits may include language preparation courses and further assistance designed to facilitate successful integration into academic life in Germany.

Research Grants for Doctoral Candidates and Early-Career Researchers

DAAD provides a range of opportunities for doctoral researchers and early-career academics wishing to undertake research in collaboration with German universities and research institutions. Depending on the scheme, research stays may last from one month to a full year, while dedicated doctoral funding programmes can support longer-term research projects.

These scholarships are an excellent opportunity to strengthen international research collaboration, gain access to specialised research environments and expand professional networks within the global academic community.

Opportunities for Academic Staff and Researchers

In addition to programmes for students and doctoral candidates, DAAD also offers funding opportunities for established researchers and academic staff. These grants support research visits, scientific collaboration, knowledge exchange and the development of long-term partnerships with German higher education institutions and research organisations.

Why Apply?

A DAAD scholarship offers far more than financial support. Participants benefit from:

  • high-quality academic and research opportunities at leading German institutions;
  • the development of language and intercultural skills;
  • access to international academic and professional networks;
  • enhanced career prospects in both academia and industry;
  • valuable experience of living and studying in one of Europe's leading destinations for higher education and research.
