The Ministry of Science and Higher Education has published information on funding allocated for 2025 under the National Programme for the Development of Humanities. The total amount of funding awarded to the University of Lodz was PLN 5.5 million, getting our university first place!

Opublikowano: 04 March 2026

The University of Lodz's high ranking is the result of the intensive work of its research teams and the high quality of its proposals. Our university outperformed, among others, the University of Warsaw, the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Jagiellonian University. Funds from the National Programme for the Development of Humanities (NPRH) went to a total of 35 entities, including 17 public universities, three private universities, three religious universities, nine institutes (including eight from the Polish Academy of Sciences), as well as one scientific society, one foundation and one library. This broad range of beneficiaries demonstrates the importance of the competition for the development of humanities research in Poland.

The University of Lodz received funding for all submitted projects, further underscoring their high level of merit and the thorough preparation of the applications. The projects included:

  • elaboration of an 11-volume critical edition of the most important Polish hagiographic compendiums from the mid-17th to the early 20th century;
  • research into the fate of Polish and Jewish children deported to the USSR in 1940–1941 and those born there during World War II;
  • studies and analyses of unique radio broadcasts – documentary, artistic and hybrid – produced by Polish Radio from 1945 to the present day, concerning the Holocaust and Polish-Jewish relations;
  • creating the first in Poland bio-bibliographic compendium of women creating literary culture in the first half of the 19th century, including authors, translators, editors and publishers.

This impressive result confirms the University of Lodz's strong position in the humanities and the effectiveness of its efforts to prepare and coordinate competition applications. The obtained funding will enable the implementation of ambitious projects of significant importance to the development of the humanities in Poland.
