The Department of Political Systems is a research and teaching unit operating within the Faculty of International and Political Studies at the University of Łódź.
Location: 3/5 S. Lindley'a 3/5, 90-131 Łódź (first floor).
Main area of research:
The department’s staff focus, amongst other things, on:
- the analysis of contemporary political systems,
- electoral mechanisms,
- local government,
- studies on democracy and power relations
The research interests of the KSP team focus on issues relating to contemporary political systems, particularly in Central and Eastern Europe, political theory, as well as other areas of political science: international relations in the broadest sense – processes of European integration, regionalisation and globalisation; and selected public policies of contemporary states. In their research, the Department’s staff place emphasis on advancing research into contemporary relations between political, economic and social actors. Furthermore, they investigate the factors shaping citizens’ attitudes towards state institutions and their involvement in the activities of political and social organisations. In recent years, the Department has undertaken research into issues of democracy and the democratisation of political systems, as well as party systems in non-democratic states; public policy issues such as climate change, migration and nationality; and the relationship between the state and religious organisations. For several years now, research has been conducted into the subject of elections and electoral systems.
