There is always an element of memory in photographs, and its interpretation also becomes the effect of our communication with other people
Jerzy Grzegorski – an artist invited to participate the project.
In collaboration with a group of artists whose work often involves working with archives, a project has been created – an exhibition – an installation – a community in history.
The starting point for the creation of the exhibition was based on a social archive of photographs, including those made available from private collections. The photographs became material for artistic processing by the group of people invited to cooperate as part of the project. A creative dialogue with the history of the university seen through the eyes of people working and studying there was born. A project that addresses various issues related to the community gathered around the University of Lodz has been created. The artists explore topics related to the values of the university, identity, science, collective memory, challenges posed over the decades, but they also present the everyday life of the university.
The exhibition is also a return to the history of the institution of the University of Lodz. This time, it is not obvious, because it is seen through the eyes of artists working in archives and using photography as a visual tool. As a result, the collected material will be transformed in a way that will focus on the most important challenges that have faced us, both as a community of the University of Lodz, but also as a society that bases its freedom and awareness on education.
What kind of community was, is and will be the University of Lodz? – this is an open question, which is a starting point for individual interpretations, which we will be able to make while viewing the exhibition.
Diversity is not only a concept that characterises our community. It is also a word that describes the group of contemporary Polish artists invited to participate in the project:
